About Mountville Area Community Center

The Mountville Area Community Center (MACC) began life as a 2 story, 4 classroom school building in 1901.  In 1929, a two-story addition housing an auditorium, new lavatory facilities, and two classrooms were added to the original building.  Additions in 1963, 1974, and 1982 gave the school a total of 31 classrooms, an auditorium, a library, and a large gymnasium.  At its peak, the school housed over 550 students per year.

By 2001, The Hempfield School District decided the school was not large enough to handle the projected population growth of the area.  Instead of renovating and expanding the school, they decided to build a new one.  This was completed in 2004 and sits to the East of the original school.  After the school district decided to build a new school, they offered to sell the old school to Mountville Borough for the sum of 2 silver dollars, asking only that the school be used as a community “Hub” or “Center”.  By 2004, after much community debate and study, it was decided by Mountville Borough Council to move forward on this project.  They appointed the Mountville Borough Authority to oversee the renovation, marketing, and maintaining the facility as a community center, benefitting not only the citizens of Mountville, but the people of the surrounding area as well.  Thus the MACC was born.

It has been a slow, long process, but as of 2011, the MACC has 3 long term tenants, a couple weekly tenants, and is renting other spaces on a single use basis.  The Susquehanna Dance Center has been our longest tenured tenant, having been here since 2006.  In August 2010, The Dayspring Christian Academy moved in , taking up the largest portion of the MACC.  Finally in 2011, The Lancaster Public Library West @ Mountville  moved into MACC from its previous location in the basement of the Mountville Business Center.

The MACC has 2 areas available for one-time use rental.  Please peruse this website to find the area best suited for your business meeting, event, or celebration.  Information regarding rental may be found on our contact page.
